Announcing Atlantis version 4.0.4 source code release.

The Atlantis source code release, version 4.0.4, is now available for public download at the Atlantis Project.

With this version, the Atlantis source code is now released under the terms of the GNU Public License. This allows more flexibility for people to run commercial versions of Atlantis, while ensuring that any updates made will be made available to all. This version also incorporates a number of bug-fixes contributed by people running playtest games of Atlantis. The software should still be considered beta quality, but the quality continues to increase as more people use the code.

With the release of Atlantis 4.0.1, I think the Atlantis Conquest game should be playable (though there will of course be bugs). I'd like to see someone run a game as a playtest. I'd prefer this to be someone with a compiler and some knowledge of programming, so that they can investigate any bugs when they arise. However, I can provide a Windows 95 program if necessary.

The game should work fine for between 4 and 20 players. The email load of such a small game could be handled manually, or someone with some programming knowledge and a server on the Internet could run email processing automatically. I can help out with that as well.

If you do run a game, I'd love to hear about it, and how it's going.

Announcing the Atlantis Project.

Atlantis is a multi-player computer moderated strategic fantasy game, often played via email. Atlantis was begun by Russell Wallace, who developed the initial version, and ran the first game, Atlantis 1.0. Geoff Dunbar continued the legacy, first with the extensive playtest of Atlantis 2.0, and then the commercial game Atlantis 3.0.

Now, we are proud to announce the founding the Atlantis Project, to further the development of the Atlantis game. The Atlantis Project is an open-source project, responsible for the release, coordination, and maintenance of the Atlantis source code. The goals of the project are two-fold:
